Installing

How do I install it?

From Google Play or the App Store once it is listed there. There is no direct download at the moment — install it from the store so that updates reach you automatically.

Which phones does it run on?

Srchtune runs on Android phones and tablets, and on iPhone and iPad. The features are the same on both, with one exception: iOS does not let any app change your ringtone, so “Set as ringtone” is Android only.

Your library

Some of my songs are missing

Srchtune plays the audio files on your device, so a song has to be stored on the phone before it can appear. If a file is there but the app does not list it, check that you granted access to music and audio, then pull down to rescan. Files in formats your phone cannot decode will not appear.

The artwork for my song is wrong or missing

Artwork comes from the file itself where it has any, and from our catalogue where it does not. If a cover is wrong, tell us the song and artist and we will correct the catalogue entry.

Permissions

Why does it ask for the microphone?

Only for the party lights. Reading the audio levels that drive the beat-reactive flash needs it on both systems — Android gives an app the audio visualiser only if it holds the microphone permission, and iOS asks before any app may read audio input. The audio is analysed on your phone as it plays — nothing is recorded or sent anywhere, and the app does not listen to your surroundings.

Refuse it and everything except the beat-reactive lights still works. The privacy policy lists every permission and what it is for.

Accounts and data

Do I need an account?

No. Srchtune has no account, no sign-in and no profile. There is nothing to create and nothing to delete — your playlists, history and settings live on your phone, and uninstalling the app removes them.

How do I delete my data?

Uninstall the app. Everything it stores is on your device, so removing the app removes it. What the app sends to analytics and advertising services, and how to limit it, is set out in the privacy policy. To have the records held against your install removed as well, follow Delete your data.

Is there a minimum age?

Yes — you must be at least 13, and older where the law where you live sets a higher age. Srchtune is not directed at children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and a child has used the app, the children's section of the privacy policy explains what we will delete and how to ask.

Advertising

How do I stop the advertising?

The app is free and paid for by advertising, so the ads cannot be switched off. You can limit how they are personalised: Android — Settings → Privacy → Ads; iOS — Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. In the EEA, the UK and several US states you can also change your consent choices from inside the app.
