Srchtune

Privacy policy

Srchtune plays the music already on your phone. Your songs, your playlists and what you listen to stay on your device — and where the app does use outside services, this page names every one of them.

Last updated 2 October 2026

Who we are

Srchtune is a music player for Android and iOS, published by Srchout Software. This policy covers both versions of the app and this website. There is no account, no sign-in and no profile — nothing to register and nothing for us to hold about you by name. For anything on this page, write to srchtune@gmail.com.

What stays on your device

The short version

Your music is never uploaded, copied or sent anywhere. It is read from your phone, played on your phone, and that is the end of it.

  • Your audio files, in full. The app reads the music already stored on your phone.
  • Your playlists, queue, play history and favourites.
  • Your settings — theme, accent colour, language and the rest.
  • The audio analysed for the beat-reactive lights, which never leaves the device. See permissions.

None of this is uploaded. Uninstalling the app removes all of it from your phone. To find artwork and identify songs, the app does send a song's title, artist and album name — never the file itself — as described in what the app sends.

What the app sends

Srchtune uses the outside services below. Each is named here with what it receives, because the data goes to those companies and is handled under their terms.

We share data only with the services named on this page, only for the purpose given against each one, and we require each of them to protect it to a standard at least equal to this policy. None of them is permitted to use what they receive through Srchtune for any other purpose, and we sell your personal information to no one.

Firebase Analytics

Usage statistics

A randomly generated app instance identifier, the screens you open, session counts, your device model, OS version, language and country (from your IP address), and the app version.

Their privacy policy

Firebase Crashlytics

Crash reporting

When the app crashes: a stack trace, the state of the device at the time, the app version and a pseudonymous installation identifier.

Their privacy policy

Microsoft Clarity

Product analytics

How the app is used — which features are reached and where people get stuck — together with device and app details.

Their privacy policy

Google AdMob

Advertising

Your device's advertising identifier, your interactions with ads, and device and network information, which may be used to personalise advertising.

Song details, for artwork and the catalogue

Srchtune catalogue

Identifying songs and artwork

The title, artist and album name written in a song's file, to look it up in our catalogue. When a song cannot be identified, those names and its length are kept, with a random identifier for your install, so it can be added to the catalogue. Nothing that names you is sent.

MusicBrainz, Apple, Deezer and Wikimedia

Public music catalogues

The same title, artist and album names, sent to MusicBrainz, the Apple iTunes Search API, Deezer, Wikimedia Commons and the Cover Art Archive to find cover art and artist photos the catalogue does not have yet. Turning off “Download missing artwork” in Settings stops the cover and photo lookups.

Error reports

Fixing problems

When something fails — an advertisement that will not load, a song that will not play — a short report goes to our servers: what failed and why, your device model and its Android or iOS version, whether the app is a test build, the random install identifier and, for a song that will not play, its title.

About the advertising

Srchtune is free and paid for by ads. Where the law requires it — the EEA, the UK and several US states — the app shows Google's consent form on first launch and requests no advertisement until you have answered it. You can change your answer at any time from Settings → Privacy choices.

Artwork and the catalogue

The app and this website fetch artist and album artwork, and catalogue information, from our servers. Those requests carry your IP address, as every web request does. We use it to serve the response and for ordinary security logging, and we build no profile from it.

Permissions, and the reason for each

The two operating systems name these differently and ask for them at different moments, so both are listed. Srchtune requests nothing that is not tied to a feature below.

On Android

Music and audio files

To find and play the songs on your phone. Nothing is uploaded.

Microphone

Only for the party lights. Android hands an app the audio visualiser only if it holds the microphone permission, and the visualiser is what lets the flash pulse in time with the track. The audio is analysed on the device as it plays — nothing is recorded, stored or transmitted, and the app does not listen to your surroundings.

Notifications

To show the playback controls while music is playing.

Foreground service (media playback)

To keep playing when the app is in the background or the screen is off.

Modify audio settings

For audio playback, and for the audio visualiser behind the party lights.

Modify system settings

Only if you use “Set as ringtone”: Android requires it before an app may change the ringtone. Android only — iOS does not let any app change your ringtone, so the feature is not offered there.

Internet

Artwork, the catalogue, advertising and the services above.

On iPhone and iPad

Media and Apple Music

To find and play the music already in your library. Nothing is uploaded, and the app neither streams from nor subscribes you to Apple Music.

Microphone

Only for the party lights, for the same reason as on Android: reading the audio levels that drive the beat-reactive flash requires it. The analysis happens on the device while the track plays, and nothing is recorded, stored or sent anywhere.

Notifications

To show the playback controls on the lock screen and in Notification Centre.

Background audio

To keep playing when the app is not in the foreground or the screen is off.

Allow tracking (App Tracking Transparency)

Asked only because of advertising. Decline it and iOS withholds the advertising identifier from us, advertisements stop being personalised, and everything else in the app works exactly as before.

Refuse any of them and the feature that needs it stops working; the rest of the app carries on. Every one can be withdrawn later in your phone's own settings.

How data is protected

Everything the app and this website send travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS/TLS). That applies to the catalogue and artwork requests, the error reports, and the connections to every third-party service named above.

  • The catalogue database is reachable only with a publishable, read-only key. It grants permission to read the public catalogue tables and nothing else; writes are refused twice over, by table privileges and again by row-level security.
  • Access to the error reports and to the analytics consoles is limited to the people at Srchout Software who need it, and is protected by the account security of the providers named above.
  • The app holds no password, payment detail or contact detail of yours, because there is no account — so there is none to lose.

No service on the internet can promise perfect security, and we do not. What we can say is that the amount of data involved is deliberately small: your music, playlists and listening history never leave your phone in the first place.

How long data is kept

Nothing above is kept indefinitely, whether or not you ask us to remove it:

  • Crash reports — deleted after 90 days.
  • Analytics events — expire automatically after at most 14 months.
  • Usage sessions (Microsoft Clarity) — deleted on Microsoft's own retention schedule for Clarity.
  • Error reports on our servers — deleted after 12 months, or sooner once the problem they describe is fixed.
  • Server security logs — kept only as long as they are useful for preventing abuse, and then deleted.
  • Catalogue entries — kept for as long as the catalogue exists. They carry no identifier of any kind, so they are not personal data and there is nothing in them pointing back at you.

Data on your phone is kept until you delete it or uninstall the app. To have the records held against your install ID removed sooner, see Delete your data.

Your choices

  • Advertising. Reset or delete your advertising identifier in your phone's settings — Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads; iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. In the EEA, the UK and several US states you can change your consent choices from inside the app at any time.
  • Permissions. Every permission above can be revoked in your phone's settings.
  • Everything at once. Uninstalling the app ends all collection and removes everything stored on your device.

Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have the right to ask what data is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to its processing. Because there is no account, we cannot identify you from our side — the identifiers above are pseudonymous and held by the services named. Write to srchtune@gmail.com and we will help as far as those identifiers allow.

To have the data held against your install ID deleted, follow the steps on Delete your data — it lists what is removed, what is kept, and how long each is held.

If you are in the EEA or the UK

The data controller is Srchout Software, reachable at srchtune@gmail.com. We rely on these legal bases:

  • Consent — for personalised advertising and for analytics. This is the choice you make in Google's consent form on first launch, and you can withdraw or change it at any time from Settings → Privacy choices.
  • Legitimate interests — for crash and error reports, and for server security logging: keeping the app working and our servers from being abused.
  • Performance of a contract — for the artwork and catalogue lookups that are the feature you asked for when you opened the app.

You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to this processing, to withdraw consent, and to data portability. Some of the services above are operated by companies outside the EEA and the UK, chiefly in the United States: where data reaches them it is transferred under the safeguards those companies put in place, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office — though we would rather you wrote to us first.

US state privacy rights

If you live in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas or another state with a comprehensive privacy law, you have the right to know what personal information is collected about you, to have it deleted, to correct it, and to opt out of targeted advertising. The steps on Delete your data are how to exercise them, and we do not charge for it or treat you differently afterwards.

  • We do not sell your personal information for money, and we never have.
  • Targeted advertising. Showing personalised advertisements through Google AdMob counts as “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising under California law, and as targeted advertising under the others. To opt out, decline personalised advertising in Settings → Privacy choices where that choice is offered, and delete or reset your advertising identifier in your phone's own settings — the steps are on Delete your data. The app keeps working either way; the advertisements simply stop being personalised.
  • We collect no sensitive personal information — no precise location, no health, biometric, racial, religious or sexual-orientation data, no government identifiers, no contents of your messages. We do not profile you in a way that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

Because there is no account, we identify a request by the install ID rather than by your name, and an authorised agent may make a request on your behalf by writing to srchtune@gmail.com. If we have to refuse a request we will say why, and you may appeal by replying to that message.

This website

srchtune.com sets no cookies, runs no analytics, loads no advertising and embeds no third-party trackers or social media scripts. There is nothing here to consent to, which is why you are not asked. Fonts are served from this site rather than fetched from Google.

Our servers log the ordinary details of a web request — IP address, the page asked for, the time, the browser's user-agent string — to serve the page and to spot abuse. Those logs are kept briefly and then deleted, and no profile is built from them. The catalogue pages read the same public catalogue the app does.

Children under 13

Srchtune is not for children under 13

You must be at least 13 years old to use Srchtune. The app is not directed at children, is not designed for them, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 on either Android or iOS.

The age requirement

The minimum age is 13, and higher where the law where you live sets a higher age for consenting to this kind of processing — 14, 15 or 16 in several countries in the EEA, and 16 in the United Kingdom for consent-based processing. By installing Srchtune you are confirming you meet whichever age applies to you. Where a parent or guardian lets a child use their device, the account holder remains responsible for that use.

How the app is set up to keep it that way

  • Srchtune is rated and listed for a general audience aged 13 and over. It is not enrolled in Google Play's Designed for Families programme and is not published in the App Store's Kids Category, so it is not offered to children in either store.
  • The app asks for no name, email address, phone number, photograph, contact list or location — there is no account and no sign-in, so there is no form a child could fill in and nothing for us to hold about anyone by name.
  • There is no chat, no messaging, no comments, no profile and no way for users to contact one another, so no child can be reached through Srchtune.
  • We do not knowingly serve personalised or interest-based advertising to anyone we know to be under 13, and we do not knowingly build an advertising profile from a child's use of the app.

For parents and guardians

If you believe a child under 13 has used Srchtune and that information about them has reached us, write to srchtune@gmail.com with the subject “Child data”. You do not need an account or any reference number. Tell us the device and roughly when it was used, as described on Delete your data, and we will:

  1. Confirm we have received your request.
  2. Delete the records held against that install — the analytics, crash and error reports listed in what the app sends — within 30 days, and sooner where we can.
  3. Tell you when it is done.

You may also ask us what is held before deciding, and refuse any further collection without deleting the app: uninstalling it ends all collection immediately, and removes everything stored on the device with it.

If we learn that a user is under 13, we delete what we hold against that install rather than keeping it. We are not able to identify a child from our side — the identifiers described in this policy are pseudonymous and there is no name behind them — which is why a message from you is what starts the process.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and material changes will be announced in the app or on this site.
